Orlando Sentinel - Coffin up Ink
This is high praise coming from such a well respected writer and critic. He goes on to praise Producer, Justin Beckler for his work and state the Album is 'a well-conceived marriage of concept with songs and performances that uplift the theme'. -and- 'an earthy landscape that's the sonic equivalent of a really awesome Halloween party at a cabin in the swamp'. For a band who loves to clip press snippets, this is a great one to note amongst many other favorable reviews we've received recently about the new album. the BJB rocks w/ Rev. Peyton's BIG DAMN Band @ BackBooth (12/11/10)
We have one of our biggest shows EVER coming up on December 11th at BackBooth, and we need your help moving some tickets. We are playing with Reverend Peyton's BIG DAMN BAND, a band that in many ways inspired the BJB into existance. I know I personally would not be playing the washboard today if it wasn't for WashBoard Breezy and their overall influence has been huge on me over the last few years... So, show your JUG-ly Support by hitting us up before now and then and buying a ticket. They are $8.00 through us, and $10.00 at the door. But, the bottom line is that in order to keep getting top quality gigs like this, we need to do our part with the pre-sell tickets. It is a necessary evil all bands have to deal with...and to be honest, I wouldn't even ask if I didn't feel this night will be WELL worth the $$. Along w/ the Rev, we will be playing with RJ Harman and recently added - The Die Tryin's. October 19, 2010 - Tuesday

For those unfamiliar with Q's House - It's 'Inside the Actor's' Studio for unsigned musicians with a dash of 'The Daily Show'. It's a great outlet for local music and we are stoked to be back on the program. Last time we were a little rusty and out our of sorts, but we've been saving up juicy stories for the last 6 months to ensure we have something to yap about...as well as play some new tunes for the audience. Listen LIVE @ (www.qshouse.com) TONIGHT!!! (From 8-10pm), or check back into the site after the fact for replays and podcasts of the interview. September 11, 2010 - Saturday

CL (Creative Loafing) TAMPA September 9-15, 2010 - Vol. 23, No. 26 www.CLTAMPA.com THE DAILY LOAF
Bloody Jug Band - Orlando's lo-fi Gothic blues and Americana septet writes morbid songs with titles like 'Graverobber Blues' and 'Her Blood,' the later about getting herpes from sucking blood and delivered by gruff-drawling singer/washboard scratcher Cragmire with throaty vocal harmonics provided by Stormy Jean. Other instruments include dobro and lapsteel guitars, washtub bass, mouth harp, and a "bloody" jug. 9 p.m., Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe, Tampa, $5. September 10, 2010 - Friday
Great write-up in the TAMPA BAY TIMES
TAMPA BAY TIMES (9/10/10) www.tampabay.com/tbt/ LOCAL MUSIC | KNOW YOUR ARTISTS (Page 36) Meet ... The Bloody Jug Band
By Gabriel Loewenberg tbt* correspondent The Bloody Jug Band has set out to do things a little differently. "We said we want to do kind of a horror jug band, and most people that you talk to don't even know what the hell a jug band is," vocalist and washboard scratcher Cragmire says. "Have you ever seen the Country Bear Jamboree? You ever see Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas?" Once people hear
that, Cragmire says, "they start getting their minds around it." But it's not quite that simple. Rather than starting a traditional jug band, this Orlando seven-piece throws several other genres into the mix. Bluegrass,
Along with Cragmire, the band, whose members all go by nicknames, consists of Stormy Jean on vocals and cowbell, Brian Shredder on the bloodyaxe (guitar), Seth Funky on washtub bass, Big Daddy Jerm on the jug, Motorcycle Sean on mouth harp and Adam Blackwater on resonator and lap steel. The subject matter of their footstomping songs is typically dark, creepy and tongue-in-cheek. While some types of music that celebrate the dark side takes itself too seriously (I'm looking at you, death metal), the Bloody Jug Band didn't want to get caught up in that. "We're certainly not a gimmick," Cragmire says. "We totally believe in what we're doing, but at the same time, giving (crowds) that something else and being in on the joke." For example, in one song, Boy Named Lucy (which is a bit of a spin on the Johnny Cash classic A Boy Named Sue), the bullies at a school pick on a young boy by calling him "little Lucy goosey." But the joke is on them, as Lucy's name is really Lucifer, and he sets out to get their souls. Another track, Her Blood, is about a vampire who gets herpes by sucking the blood of a working girl. So yeah, it's a little campy, but it's all in good fun. Cragmire emphasized that he wants this band to be a family, first and foremost. In doing something so musically different, he wanted to make sure everyone operated as a cohesive unit. "None of us are 18 anymore, getting our GEDs and trying to become a rock band," he says. "The members range in age from 25 to 43. We're all serious about what we're doing." "We all have day jobs and things, but are really trying to make a splash, trying to give the world something different." The Bloody Jug Band The group performs with Sarah Purser at 10 p.m. Saturday at

Listen LIVE @ (www.qshouse.com) on March 23rd (From 8-10pm), or check back into the site after the fact for replays and podcasts of the interview. March 9, 2010 - Tuesday
Do you like BLOOD with your Chili??? (Gig on March 12th)
The BJB will be playing Smokin Devany’s - Inaugural Chili Cook-Off this Friday night (March 12th). If that wasn't enough, in between our sets we will also be holding a 'Worst Tattoo Contest' Sponsored by Atomic Tattoos. So... in one night, lots of tasty Chili, live music from the Bloody Jug Band...and shitty Tattoo's.... Now, you may be asking yourself how could all these random things come together to form such an amazing night? You got me...only GOD knows the answer to that I guess. Smokin' D's is located at 7620 N. Goldenrod Rd in Winter Park, FL (32792). There is no cover to get in, and lots of great Beers to choose from. The Chili Cookoff will begin around 8:00pm and we will start jamming a little after 10pm once everyone is good and full of beans. This will be a fun and low key evening, so if you haven't had the opportunity to come out and see the BJB in action yet, what better time then now. December 9, 2009 - Wednesday
the BJB Welcomes New Members & More...
Some newsworthy events have been happening lately, so here is a little Bloody update for you.... - Last weekend the BJB had our first foray in recording and ended up laying down 4 tracks that will eventually appear on our 'First Drops...' EP. Although alot of Blood was spilled during the session and our engineer had to go to the hospital for multiple stab wounds, we made it out alive. People have been hounding us about when they can hear some of our Bloodsongs... My answer is always - Make it out to a gig!!! But, it's hard to be a band nowadays without music to represent you in the wacky world of the internet, so we should be posting them soon. Stay tuned.... - We also are pleased to welcome 2 new members to this carnival of madness that we call the BLOODY JUG Band. 1st, is a guy called Adam Blackwater who seems to have made a deal with the Devil in exchange for some great lap-steel skills. He adds alot to our sound, and is one of the lucky ones cause he gets to sit down the whole time during gigs...Bastard!!!2nd, is a masterful guitarist who I have appropriately dubbed Brian Shredder. He will be taking over the main guitar duties for us from here on out while G.T. goes and has a baby (or maybe his wife will have it, I'm really not sure how these things work)... and we could not be happier. Brian adds alot of fresh Blood to our BloodBank and we are looking forward to introducing him to our JUGly fans at next weekends gig. AND, Since we are just like some hardcore inner city gang...where noone can actually leave the BJB roster without dying, have no fear, G.T. will still be seen in the mix contributing his 'Good Times' to the BJB collective...... but most likely with a rugrat in toe. - Lastly, we have a gig on December 18th at Holly & Dolly's... so we hope to see you there. We will be jamming with OneNightStan, and will bring a little 'Nightmare' before the X-mas festivities get underway.... Stay tuned to the same Bloody Channel for more updates.... Devil's Night DEBUT for the Bloody Jug Band
Are you ready for a Jamboree from HELL!!! After a long wait and alot of near death experiences - The Bloody Jug Band is finally ready to debut our madness to the world...and what better night for this introduction than Devil's Night (October 30th, 2009). We are very pleased to be playing alongside many of our old friends and like-minded ghouls, and we promise a night of trauma. So come on out and get BLOODY with us.... June 18, 2009 - Thursday
it takes alot of BLOOD to get started....
Many of you have been inquiring when we will start playing out live, posting music...etc. Well, hold your damn horses, it takes alot of blood to get this train running properly. To give you all a status report thus far: We have rehearsals fully underway, but will not play out till we get the right amount of jugly-bastards in place. We are trying to build a dysfunctional family here, and as you all know that kind of crazy takes time. Some bands grow into a dysfunctional family over years together, while we are trying to create a strong loathing for each other right from the get-go. We already have a few casualties and a few broken limbs....so we are off to a perfect start. Also, If anyone has an outlet for some cheap body bags please let us know. I have a feeling we are going to need them... Anything good in life is worth getting bloody for, and we hope our fans feel the same way. We thank you all for your patience and continued support....Now go keep yourself busy by playing with sharp objects and let us get back to work... |
